Our project team (North Carolina State University, Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, the University of Florida, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln) associated with each other through interest and activities in the field of microbial food safety, now known as FoodCoVNET has established itself already as the leading group and authority on SARS-CoV-2 management in the food supply chain. Initially not a food safety issue, it soon became one as stakeholders in food, including consumers, began to question why it was not. FoodCoVNET recognized the need to provide COVID-19 information to alleviate fears about the food supply and to provide much needed information on how to mitigate community spread of the virus.
